From the end of 2025, the NIS 2 Directive will oblige over 30,000 companies and organizations in Germany to implement comprehensive cybersecurity measures across all sectors: These include systematic risk management, extensive reporting and verification obligations to the BSI as well as regular audits and training. The scope of application has been significantly expanded compared to NIS-1 - in addition to traditional KRITIS operators, numerous "particularly important" and "important" institutions from almost all sectors of the economy are now also affected.

The NIS 2 Directive is an EU-wide regulation that aims to ensure a high level of cybersecurity across all member states. It extends the scope and requirements for operators of essential services and digital service providers. It includes stricter security measures, increased reporting obligations in the event of security incidents and increased cooperation between member states. It also places particular emphasis on risk management and securing critical infrastructure in order to strengthen resilience to cyber attacks.
